Quasset’s Ralp Dela Cruz to lead masterclasses on GIS for Philippines water organization
Quasset’s Ralp Dela Cruz has been invited to lead a three-part masterclass on GIS (Geographical Information System), organized by the Performance Enhancement Water Utilities Philippines (PEWUP). Participants will gain insight into innovative geospatial tools and techniques for analyzing and monitoring water assets and resources.
GIS is a conceptualized framework that provides the ability to capture and analyze spatial and geographic data. Assets such as pumping stations, treatment plants, pipelines, and valves can be modelled, helping water utilities to visualize assets and attributes in a map. Throughout the series, the software tool Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) will be utilized for training and analysis. QGIS is an open-source and user-friendly software tool for self-starters in the field of GIS and remote sensing.
Performance Enhancement Water Utilities Philippines (PEWUP) is one of the 25 Water Operator Partnerships (WOPs) of phase 1 of the WaterWorX Programme. WaterWorX is the joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and all 10 water companies in the Netherlands to give access to drinking water and sanitation to 10 million poor people worldwide by 2030.
The Dutch partner within PEWUP is VEI (Vitens Evides International), a cooperation of six water utilities in the Netherlands.
The masterclasses organized by PEWUP are a unique opportunity for all water districts in the Philippines to improve their operational performance through capacity building & technical upskilling of GIS.
Ralp Dela Cruz is Project Officer at Quasset. He is a licensed Civil Engineer and Master Plumber with working skills and knowledge of water supply services and geospatial analysis tools.
